About this document
Since 2002, there has been a fundamental shift in the delivery of the Natural Heritage Trust towards a more targeted approach to the management of Australia 's environment and natural resources.
In the 2004 federal Budget, the Natural Heritage Trust received a $300 million boost, bringing total Australian Government investment in the program to $3 billion. At its previous level of $2.7 billion, the Trust was already Australia 's largest environmental rescue plan. This additional funding means the Trust is extended to 2007-08, which will ensure regional communities can plan ahead with confidence.
The second year of the extension of the Trust, 2003-04, was an exciting time to be involved in natural resource management. The focus on regional delivery has allowed communities to determine their own priorities through accredited regional plans and investment strategies that span the country. Through this approach, powerful new partnerships in natural resource management are being forged between federal, state/territory and local governments, industry and communities.
