About this document
The focus of the Natural Heritage Trust continued to evolve during 2004–05. The year was marked by funding for a range of community-driven projects delivering 'on-ground' outcomes for natural resource management.
Fifty-two out of Australia's 56 regions have accredited management plans in place by the end of 2004–05, more than double those operational at the end of the previous year. These regions have also finalised investment strategies, which form the basis for regional investment in natural resource management.
This is the third year of the extension of the Natural Heritage Trust, which will continue in its present form until 2007–08, enabling continued confidence in regional planning. It is evident that there is increasing appreciation of the value of considering resource management issues on a regional or catchment-wide basis. Encouragingly, strong partnerships continue to be forged by communities, governments and industry at national, state/territory and local levels.
